Brought to you by the New NexGard Spectra
With the colder days setting upon us, I’m the first to admit that I get a little lazier in the winter months, and my self-care tends to drift out the window. Hot chocolates by the fire become a daily ritual, my gym membership is barely used and let’s just say wearing stockings and pants makes getting ready so much easier. Though, the one thing I refuse to compromise on in winter is the care of my dogs.
You see, there’s been this long standing tail (yep, totally meant that!) that during the colder months (ahem, freezing months, if you’re in Melbourne), your pooch pals do not need to be treated for fleas, ticks, heart worms and intestinal worms.
There are quite a few excuses people have given for this, but it’s mostly that some believe that, just like us humans, these deadly parasites hate the cold and therefore do not survive in it. As much as we wish this was true, its not – fleas, ticks, heart worms and intestinal worms are a problem, all year round.
95% of fleas and ticks actually live in the environment – outdoors AND indoors – so, while we are heating our homes, these icky creatures are breeding (did you suddenly become itchy too?). And don’t think that just because heart and intestinal worms are transmitted through mosquitoes that they’re not lurking around too (think warm, moist water puddles or visits up north).
But, fear not! You can keep your furry friends protected from all four by treating them once a month with the new NexGard Spectra chewables. Yep, that’s right, one chewable for protection against all four deadly parasites – fleas, ticks, heart worms and intestinal worms.
Not only does this make it easier on the hip pocket, but it means I’m not chasing Fella and Tidda around every month trying to squirt flea gel on to their necks, only for them to roll in the dirt straight after, while I’m trying to wrap cheese and peanut butter around tablets.
Luckily, the new NexGard Spectra chewables are beef flavoured because Miss fuss-pot Tidda will happily gobble these up, without any cheese in sight. I’ve even got her thinking it’s a treat and she will sit for it. Talk about a furparent win!
But, above all, while I’m sitting here dunking my third Tim Tam into my hot chocolate, I’m feeling content, knowing that Fella and Tidda are completely protected from fleas, ticks, heart worms and intestinal worms this winter, thanks to the new NexGard Spectra chewables.
You can keep your furbabies protected with the new NexGard Spectra chewables by purchasing them from all major vet clinics and specialty pet stores. Or, like me, you can stay inside by the fire, and have them sent straight to your mailbox, by purchasing them online.
