Today was one of the most popular dates on the dachshund calendar – the annual Hophaus Dachshund Race. Hosted by Hophaus German restaurant at Southbank, the race has quickly become a must-do annual tradition since starting in 2015. Thousands of ween owners, as well as fans of short-legged, long-bodied sausage dogs converged at Southbank for the event.

The fun, festive event raises much needed funds for Dachshund Rescue Australia as weens queue up to race the 100 metre track and compete in the fashions on the field. Race spots for this year’s race filled up in less than two days with more than 60 weens on the waitlist, hoping for a scratching for their opportunity to compete.

This year’s event raised over $6,000 for Dachshund Rescue Australia and as the sun sets on race day, participants are already planning their race day strategy and costumes for next year.

AND THEY’RE OFF AND RACING!
